St. Ambrose University, founded in 1882 and affiliated with the Diocese of Davenport, is independent, coeducational, and Catholic. It is recognized as a leading Midwestern university, consistently rated among the top universities in the region by major national ranking publications. Robust academic and co-curricular programs are offered in the liberal arts and sciences, education, business, the health sciences, and increasingly in STEM fields. St. Ambrose has a strong reputation for personal attention. The student-to-faculty ratio is 12 to 1, and no classes are taught by graduate assistants.
